Braces Q&A

What are braces?

Braces are one of the most popular orthodontic treatments available, and a proven and effective method for straightening your smile. They’re a fixed oral appliance utilizing brackets, bands, and an archwire.

Dr. Smith uses dental cement to attach the brackets to the surface of your teeth, fitting each tooth with a single bracket. Then, he threads an archwire through the brackets and uses a series of bands to hold the archwire in place.

He tightens the archwire, which exerts small and consistent pressure on your teeth. That pressure forces them to move into a better alignment, and by the time you’re done with your treatment, they’ll be perfectly straight.

Freedom Orthodontics is dedicated to using innovative equipment and advanced techniques to make your treatment as convenient and effective as possible.

What conditions do braces treat?

Braces are excellent for treating several orthodontic conditions, including:

  • Crooked teeth
  • Crowded teeth
  • Teeth that are widely spaced
  • Overbite or overjet
  • Underbite

After a thorough inspection of your mouth and jaw, Dr. Smith can determine whether braces will be an effective treatment for your orthodontic concerns.

Are there different types of braces?

There are a few types of braces, each of which can address particular needs and preferences.

Traditional braces

Traditional braces use metal brackets affixed to the front of your teeth. The rubber bands come in many colors, giving you the option to customize your smile and add some flair to your look.

Clear braces

If you’d like to keep your orthodontic treatment discreet, then clear braces are an excellent choice. The brackets are made from monocrystalline ceramic, which is strong and durable and has a similar color as your tooth enamel. This means that your brackets will be less noticeable, giving you more discretion as you straighten your smile.
